Software & Charting

Marketsmith by Investors Daily

A great charting package for techno-fundamentals. I use it daily for individual stocks and alerts. It also has good screening capabilities. There is also a mobile app which is nice.

TradingView

This is another one of my goto charting programs. I like the ability to set alerts on indicators as well as price. You can also deep-dive and create your own indicators or find other community-based indicators. I also like the mobility of this one on my phone

Stockcharts.com

I really like the ACP version of this one. (ACP - Advanced Charting Package) It is highly flexible. Stockcharts also has some indicators I cannot find anywhere else such as the Bullish Percent Index and $USHL5 (5 day total of news and new lows)

Think Or Swim

If you have an account with Ameritrade this one is free. It can be a bit overwhelming at first but has a myriad of features for charting, analysis, and lists. I use this one for dynamic lists where as stocks meet my criteria they show up on my list and alert me.

Sites

Vixcentral.com

If you follow the vix (Volatility Index) this one is a must. I use this to determine VIX levels, Contango or Backwardation.

CNBC

A goto for financial news and articles. Please note, I do not watch CNBC all day. The constant buzz is distracting and I do not base trades off anything on CNBC

Yahoo Finance

Good source for news, quotes, and basic charting. The advertising and popups are excessive and annoying. If you can get past the marketing, there is some good info out here. I like the fact I can pull up historical data here and drop in in a spreadsheet

Books

I try to read one to two books on the markets, trading, self-improvement, and/or business a week. (I am retired so I have time!) This is an ever growing list. Contact me if you want my opinion on any books investment related books.

High Probability Trading Strategies Entry and Exit Tactics for the Forex, Futures, and Stock Markets

Robert C. Miner

Currently reading this one and like it. Discusses momentum and multiple timeframes. I will update after I finish

Trading E-Mini Stock Index Futures: A New Path to Wealth

Dennis B. Anderson, Ed.D.

This is a great book for an introduction to futures. I originally started out doing back testing of my stock and leveraged-ETF strategies and wanted to try it against the futures markets. I am now hooked on futures! The author has a newer version which goes into Micro Futures which are more manageable for beginners. His long and short trend strategy is very similar to mine. (or mine is similar to his) Great book, recommended.
